Krobo girl

Although I do a lot of pencil portraits, I am not in the habit of painting people. So I am rather happy with how this little lady came out. She is a member of the Krobo tribe in Ghana. The original photo was taken by Retlaw Snellac. The Krobo are among the oldest and most famous makers of ground-glass beads in Africa. many of the beads, known as AKORI, or AGGREY, are made locally; others have been traded from Venice since the seventeenth century, as well as from Holland.
